NF Meet-ups in Cork and Dublin

Making Connections and Lifelong Friends

In March we had a wonderful NF meetup with families, carers and children in Ballincollig, Cork. It was lovely to see all the kids playing together and becoming firm friends. Lots of new connections were made. Much more meet-ups are planned for the future. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet up with NF Families. Once the meet-ups and venue are finalized, we will let everyone know.

Wonderful Well-Being Wednesday

Promoting the Well-Being of Children in Schools

A huge thank you to Gillian Dunne Minnock for organizing a non-uniform day at Confey Montessori School and Scoil San Carlo on Wednesday 16th March. Teachers, resource teachers, SNA's and pupils in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class raised €850 and when combined with Confey Montessori School the total came to a massive €1,600. The Association would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Gillian and particularly all the students and staff involved in making the collection an amazing success. Pictured are teachers Mr Mc Creery, Mr Noctor, Ms Quinn, Mrs Mac Hugh principal and special needs manager Mr Sherlockand, Laura from Confey Montessori with Charlotte, Paul, Rafael and Romanjean.

In 2024 NF Ireland will be rolling out Wonderful Well-Being Wednesday to lots more schools around Ireland. Student well-being is present when students realise their abilities, take care of their physical well-being, can cope with the stresses of life and have a sense of purpose and belonging to a wider community. Schools will be able to support the Neurofibromatosis Association of Ireland by hosting a well-being day in their school. Promoting the well-being of children and adults is vital for their development. It is part of the department of education mission to enable children to reach their potential and the promotion of their well-being is central.

NF Young Academy 2023

NF Young Ambassador Academy - Lisbon 2023

In August, Aoife O’Donovan and Cathy Milner attended the NF Young Ambassador Academy in Lisbon, Portugal. 19 other participants from around Europe also took part in this educational program. The Academy involved working closely with a psychological team who focused on how to deal with the challenges they are facing with NF. Academy lectures included Gene Therapy, Health Communication, Patient Advocacy, NF Research and a visit to a lab doing research. The training has allowed them become NF Ambassadors and to work with patients in Ireland on a national level and with NFPU on a European level. Registration for 2024 will open in the new year.
